Decree No. (33) of 2014 AD

on assigning revolutionaries affiliated under the legitimacy of

the Libyan state to protect the gains of the 17 February Revolution

The General National Congress,

Upon review of:

  • The Constitutional Declaration issued by the National Transitional Council on 03 Ramadan 1432 AH, corresponding to 03/08/2011 AD, and amendments thereto;
  • The rules of procedure of the General National Congress;
  • The conclusions of the General National Congress in its ordinary meeting No. (182) held on Tuesday, 8 Jumada al-Akher 1435 AH, corresponding to 08/04/2014 AD;

issued the following Decree:

Article (1)

Contingents and formations of revolutionaries affiliated under the banner of legitimacy shall be assigned, respectively, to undertake urgent and necessary measures to protect the Libyan state and the gains of the 17 February Revolution, ensure continued constitutional legitimacy, protect public utilities, and extend the State’s control over all Libyan soil.

Article (2)

For the purposes of implementing Article (1) of this Decree, a committee formed from the Congress presidency (the president and vice president) and the chairmen of the defence, interior, and national security committees of the General National Congress shall identify the names of the contingents and formations entrusted with protection duties and the bodies to be protected, in coordination with the related bodies in the Libyan state.

Article (3)

The government shall provide the needs and requirements necessary to enable the contingents and formations to perform its duties as requested.

Article (4)

This Decree shall enter into force from the date of its issue and shall be published in the Official Gazette and the available media. It shall be implemented by the concerned parties.
