Resolution No. (1) of 2002 on specifying the sectors where popular selection shall be made by the Basic People’s Congresses and the People’s Congresses for the districts

The Secretariat of the Basic People’s Congresses,

Upon review of:

  • The Declaration on the Establishment of the Authority of the People;
  • Law No. (1) of 1369 FDP on the People’s Congresses and the People’s Committees, and the implementing regulations thereof;
  • The minutes of General Secretariat of the Basic People’s Congresses meeting No. (1) of 1370 FDP;

has resolved:

Article (1)

I. The sectors for which selection shall take place at the level of the Basic People’s Congress shall be as follows:

  1. People’s Inspection and Oversight
  2. People’s Court
  3. Foreign Liaison and International Cooperation Sector
  4. African Unity Sector
  5. Justice and Public Security Sector
  6. Financial Sector
  7. Education and Professional Training Sector
  8. Youth and Jamahiriyan Sports Sector
  9. Media and Culture Sector
  10. Tourism Sector
  11. Health Sector
  12. Housing and Utilities Sector
  13. Agriculture Sector
  14. Animal Resources Sector
  15. Marine Resources Sector
  16. Industry, Mining, and Energy Sector
  17. Transportation and Communication Sector
  18. Planning Sector
  19. Economy and Commerce Sector

II. The bodies and sectors for which popular selection shall take place at the level of the People’s Congress for the district shall be as follows:

  1. District Planning Council
  2. District People’s Inspection and Oversight
  3. District People’s Court
  4. Justice and Public Security Sector
  5. Financial Sector
  6. Education and Professional Training Sector
  7. Youth and Jamahiriyan Sports Sector
  8. Media and Culture Sector
  9. Tourism Sector
  10. Health Sector
  11. Housing and Utilities Sector
  12. Agriculture Sector
  13. Animal Resources Sector
  14. Marine Resources Sector
  15. Industry, Mining, and Energy Sector
  16. Transportation and Communication Sector
  17. Planning Sector
  18. Economy and Commerce Sector

Article (2)

Under a resolution from the Secretariat of the General People’s Congress, certain sectors that indicate a lack of activity in certain districts may be exempted from popular selection.

Article (3)

This Resolution shall come into force on the date of its issue and shall be published in the Legal Register.
