to Law No. (40) of 1974 on service in the Armed Forces

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces:

Upon review of:

  • Law No. (40) of 1974 on service in the Armed Forces;
  • Law No. (35) of 1977 on reorganising the Armed Forces;
  • Law No. (5) of 1978 on amending some provisions of military laws;
  • Law No. (9) of 1981 on adding a provision to Law No. (5) of 1978;

issued the follow law:

Article (1)

Soldiers in the Armed Forces shall be promoted either in accordance with the provisions of Part (4) of Law No. (40) of 1974 on service in the Armed Forces or by retention of their ranks or requesting training for ranks they determine that are commensurate with their capabilities and abilities to exert effort and contribute. They shall be entitled to all material and moral benefits prescribed for their peers who wish to advance through promotion.

Article (2)

Promotion of soldiers from one grade to another shall be in accordance with the rules and conditions specified by a decision to be issued by the General Commander of the Armed Forces.

Article (3)

In applying the provisions of this law, grade shall refer to the professional grade that corresponds to military rank according to the attached table.

Article (4)

This law shall enter into force from its date of issuance, and it shall be published in the Official Gazette. Any contrary provision shall be repealed.
