Law No. (104) of 1970 AD

To Confirm Certain Interim Provisions with regard to Legal Practice

In the Name of the People,

The Revolutionary Command Council,

● Upon review of Constitutional Declaration No. (1) issued on 2 Shawwal

1389 AH, corresponding to 11 December 1969 AD; and

● Legislative Decree No. (8) of 1965 AD on the promulgation of the Legal Practice Law,

as amended by Law No. (18) of 1968 AD, and

● Based on the submission of the Minister of Justice and the approval of the Council of Ministers,

Issued the following law

Article (1)

The Bar Association and its sub-committees shall be dissolved and an interim committee shall take over the terms of reference of the general assembly, the Bar Association, and its sub-committees. This committee shall be formed by a decree of the Minister of Justice, without any need for any other procedure, and shall be chaired by a president of the appeal courts with a membership of four judges and attorneys.

The chairman of the interim committee shall exercise the powers prescribed for the president of the Bar and the heads of the sub-committees of the Bar.

Article (2)

The interim committee shall continue to exercise the powers granted to it in Article 1 until the Bar Association and its sub-committees are reconstituted.

Article (3)

The general assembly of lawyers may convene an ordinary or extraordinary meeting only at the invitation of the Minister of Justice.

Article (4)

The registration of non-Arab lawyers on the roll shall be canceled when this law comes into effect.

Article (5)

The Minister of Justice shall implement this law, which shall come into force as of the date of being published in the Official Gazette. Any provision contrary thereto shall be repealed.
