on naming the State

The General National Congress:

Upon review of:

  • The Constitutional Declaration of 3 August 2011 and its amendments;
  • Law No. (4) of 2012 on the election of the General National Congress and its amendments;
  • High National Elections Commission Decision No. (102) of 2012 on the adoption of the results of the General National Congress elections;
  • General National Congress Resolution No. (1) of 2012 on the adoption of the result of the General National Congress presidential elections;
  • The bylaws of the General National Congress;
  • Letter of His Excellency the Prime Minister No. (00001) of 01/01/2013;
  • The outcome of the General National Congress session held on 08/01/2013;

the following resolution was issued:

Article (1)

Until a permanent constitution for the country is adopted, the name “State of Libya” shall replace “the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.”

Article (2)

All relevant international, regional and local organisations and bodies, as well as all public and private entities, shall adopt this new name. They shall also change and replace all official and unofficial documents and guarantee that these be issued in the future in accordance with the new name mentioned in Article (1) of this resolution.

Article (3)

This law shall enter into effect from 08/01/2013, any contrary provision shall be repealed, and it shall be published in the Official Gazette.
