Decree No. (51) of 1376 FDP 2008 AD

on abolishing the human rights offices set out

in the decrees issued organising and reorganising the
General People’s Committees for sectors

The General People’s Committee,

Upon review of:

  • The Great Green Charter of Human Rights in the Jamahiriyan Era;
  • Law No. (1) of 1375 FDR on the rules of procedure of the People’s Congresses and the People’s Committees, and the implementing regulations thereof;
  • Law No. (20) of 1991 AD on promoting freedom;
  • Law No. (55) of 1976 AD on issuing the Civil Service Law;
  • General People’s Committee Decree No. (982) of 1375 FDP (2007 AD) on establishing and forming the National Committee for Human Rights in the Great Jamahiriya;
  • Based on the submission of the Secretary of the General People’s Committee for Manpower, Training, and Employment in Letter No. (28) dated 13 January 1376 FDP;
  • The approval of the General People’s Committee in its second ordinary meeting of 1375 FDP;

has decreed:

Article (1)

The current human rights offices set out in the decrees issued by the General People’s Committee organising and reorganising the General People’s Committees for sectors shall be eliminated and the competencies thereof shall be assigned to the National Committee for Human Rights in the Great Jamahiriya issued under the aforementioned General People’s Committee Decree No. (982) of 1375 FDP.

Article (2)

This Decree shall enter into force on the date of its issue and any provision that conflicts with those hereof shall be repealed. The concerned bodies shall implement this Decree and it shall be published in the Procedures Register.
