Decree No. (97) of 1993 on Restructuring

the Supreme Council of Judicial Bodies

 

The General People’s Committee,
Upon review of: 

  • The Judicial System Law issued by Law No. (51) of 1976 AD;
  • Law No. (13) of 1990 on the People’s Committee;
  • The General People’s Congress Resolution No. (4) of 1992 AD on Reorganizing Specialized General People’s Committees, as amended; and
  • The General People’s Committee Decree No. (19) of 1993 AD on Organizing the Secretariat of the General People’s Committee for Justice and Public Security.

 

has decreed the following:

Article (1) 

The Supreme Council of Judicial Bodies shall be restructured as follows: 

  1. Secretary of the General People’s Committee for Justice and Public Security, the Chairman 
  2. President of the Supreme Court, the Deputy Chairman 
  3. Public Prosecutor. 
  4. Secretary General for Judicial and Legal Affairs. 
  5. The most senior presidents of appeal courts, Members 
  6. Head of the Judicial Bodies Inspection Department. 
  7. Head of Case Management Department. 
  8. Head of the People’s Advocacy Department. 
  9. Head of Law Department.

 

Article (2) 

The Supreme Council of Judicial Bodies shall undertake the functions provided for in the Judicial System Law No. (51) of 1976 AD referenced above. 

It shall further perform the functions listed below: 

  1. Ratifying the judgments that require ratification and issuing full or partial pardons; and 
  2. Issuing decisions to transfer staff to functions within judicial bodies, in addition to decisions for the delegation and secondment of members of judicial bodies.

 

Article (3) 

This Decree shall enter into force as of the date of its issuance and shall be published in the official gazette.
