on determining the rights and benefits of civilians and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty

The General People’s Congress

• In execution of the resolutions adopted by Basic People’s Congresses in their second ordinary session of 1400 FDP corresponding to 1990 AD, and formulated by the General Forum of People’s Congresses, People’s Committees, syndicates, unions and professional associations (General People’s Congress) during its seventeenth ordinary session for the period of 29 Dhu al-Qaada – 5 Dhu al-Hijja 1400 FDP, corresponding to 11-17 June 1991 AD.

issued the following law:

Article (1)

The service of civilians and soldiers who lose their lives in the exercise of an assigned duty or as a result thereof shall remain effective until the legal discharge age. Such casualties shall receive the same treatment reserved for living personnel with respect to salary, promotion, bonuses, financial benefits, and all other material benefits.

Article (2)

All salaries and financial rights shall be disbursed to the family that was supported by the martyr of duty during his lifetime. The children of such martyr shall have priority acceptance in educational institutions.

Article (3)

The Public Treasury shall bear responsibility for all financial amounts entailed by the implementation of this law.

Article (4)

The General People’s Committee shall establish the necessary foundations, rules and provisions for the implementation of this law, including a definition of “duty” and identification of the competent entity in charge of issuing assignment orders, in addition to other rules.

Article (5)

This law shall enter into force from its date of issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette and various media outlets.
