amending Article (195) of the Penal Code

The General National Congress

Upon review of:

  • The Constitutional Declaration issued on 03/08/2011, and the amendments thereof;
  • The rules of procedure of the General National Congress;
  • The Penal Code and the amendments thereof;
  • The decisions of the General National Congress in its 164th ordinary session held on Tuesday 4 Rabi’ al-Awwal 1435 AH corresponding to 04/02/2014;

issued the following law:

Article (1)

Article (195) of the Penal Code shall be amended as follows:

Without prejudice to any harsher penalty, whoever commits an act that prejudices the 17 February Revolution shall be punished by imprisonment.

The same penalty shall be imposed on any person who publicly insults the legislative, executive, or judicial branches or any member thereof during or due to the performance of duties, or who insults the state emblem or flag.

Article (2)

Law No. (8) of 1427 AD [sic] amending an article of the Penal Code shall be repealed.

Article (3)

This law shall be published in the Official Gazette and the available media outlets. It shall enter into force from its date of issuance.
