approving the benefits of personnel killed in military operations, missing persons and prisoners

The General People’s Congress

Upon review of:

  • The Declaration on the Establishment of the Authority of the People;
  • Law No. (9) of 1984 on the organisation of people’s congresses;
  • In execution of the decisions taken by Basic People’s Congresses in their second ordinary session of 1396 FDP corresponding to 1987 AD, and formulated by the General Forum of People’s Congresses and People’s Committees (General People’s Congress) during its fourteenth ordinary session for the period of 14 Rajab 1397 FDP, corresponding to 2 March 1988 AD, to 21 Rajab 1397 FDP corresponding to 9 March 1988 AD.

issued the following law:

Article (1)

The service of personnel killed in military operations defending the country, as well as prisoners, missing and disabled persons, shall continue until the legal discharge age with regards to salary, promotion, and any other benefits provided in accordance with the legislation in force.

The status of personnel killed in military operations, as well as prisoners, missing and disabled persons, as well as the cases subject to the provisions of the previous paragraph, shall be validated by a decision of the secretary of the Interim General Defence Committee.

Article (2)

The family of personnel killed, taken prisoner, missing and disabled as a result of military operations conducted in defence of the country shall be disbursed all the salaries and benefits thereof and shall be exempted from rent or mortgage. They shall be given priority in the provision of public services, and their children shall have priority acceptance in educational institutions.

Article (3)

This law shall enter into force from its date of issuance and shall be published in the Official Gazette and various media outlets.
